In a world full of good you will always find some bad. Fortunately for us those who choose to be bad usually wind up in the hands of those who sacrifice to protect what's good about our way of life. Such is the life of anyone who has chosen the field of law enforcement. It's a good thing that we have dedicated officers of both the two legged and four legged kind that keep the bad guys at bay.

One such four legged officer is named Thor. Thor a K-9 officer with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs office was stabbed in the line of duty. Thor and his human counterparts were pursuing a burglary suspect. It was in that pursuit that Thor was stabbed multiple times by the suspect 30 year old Darien Greenwood.

Greenwood attacked Thor with a 4 to 6 inch switchblade knife. During the course of that attack Greenwood, the suspect, was shot by Sheriff's deputies. According to initial reports it was believed that had Thor not intervened the suspect, Greenwood, would have used that knife to attack Thor's human partner.  Greenwood later died from his wounds and the incident remains under investigation.

Thor underwent emergency surgery at a Mandeville Veterinary Clinic. According to the update from Sheriff Jack Strain Thor lost a lot of blood and his  condition is being monitored on a day by day basis.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs Department Facebook page more than 700-thousand well wishers have offered words of thanks and encouragement to Officer Thor. We would like to add our best wishes to those that have been expressed from around the world for a speedy recovery for Thor and the safety and protection of all who serve in law enforcement.
