If you were hoping to book a cruise to your favorite destination shortly, you'll have to wait a little bit longer in 2021. Officials with Carnival Cruise Lines announced yesterday that they are extending cancellations of all of their cruises departing from US ports through the end of March 2021. The company was hoping for a gradual return to putting ships back in service on the water, but concerns about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic are making that difficult.

The cruise industry has had a devastating year, with most operations being halted in March 2020 when the Centers for Disease Control ordered a halt to all cruises leaving from US ports after several serious outbreaks onboard.

The company is also halting some cruises that have already been booked, and are saying that customers who have already paid for their travel should watch their emails shortly for further instructions. According to WWL in New Orleans, those include the following:

  • Carnival Freedom from Galveston: Up to and including April 10, 2021
  • Carnival Miracle from San Diego and San Francisco: Up to and including Sept. 16, 2021
  • Carnival Liberty from Port Canaveral: From Sept. 17 - Oct. 18, 2021
  • Carnival Sunshine from Charleston: From Oct. 11 - Nov. 13, 2021

The CDC has released guidelines for returning to normal operations for cruise lines, and that includes procedures for not only testing passengers and crew, but a plan of action for isolation and quarantine as well.
