If you are of a certain age you might know how to say the this phrase, " Hi, I'm Glen Campbell !". That was the opening line from the Glen Campbell Good Time Hour TV show that aired in the late 60's. Glen's enthusiastic, over-the-top, good ol' boy greeting became his calling card to those who had never heard his songs.  After you heard Glen Campbell perform you  knew that behind that bright southern boy personality was a tremendous vocalist and professional entertainer.

It was on this date in the year 1968 that the 2nd Annual CMA Awards were held in Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. What was different about the 1968 award show was the presence of the NBC network's TV cameras. This was a big deal for country music. The show was being taped by NBC for a showing during the all important November sweeps.

On that show in 1968 the boy from humble beginnings in Delight Arkansas, Glen Campbell won two of the most prestigious awards that were given out. He was honored as Male Vocalist  of the year and he also earned the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.

Glen's health is not the best. He has gotten older, as we all do and his mind has been ravaged with Alzheimer's Disease. While that disease may take the Glen Campbell of today away from us earlier than any of us want to see, Those of us who are certain age will remember the bright eyed Arkansas farm boy who made us all feel like Rhinestone Cowboys.

Here are some of Glen's biggest hits from 1968.
