Most of us think of a fence as a device to keep something in or keep something out. In the City of Scott , town leaders there see a fence as a way to make their community more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This new ordinance will pertain to auto mechanic and repair shops that might have vehicles stored on their lot.

There is a current statute on the books in Scott that says all junkyards must have an enclosed fence around them. Since many repair shops have an inventory of non working vehicles on their property it was suggested they be included in this ordinance as well.

The idea behind the proposal is to help keep the outward appearance of the community beautiful. By adopting standards for uniform fence structure and height, the unsightly vehicles will be hidden from the public view.

City father's plan to spend the next year contacting mechanic and auto repair shops in the city and working with them to help them achieve this goal. The hope is to make the changes less of a burden on the business owner while still achieving the final result of a more beautiful town.

Those who might choose to buck the ordinance will find the law does have some teeth in in for non-compliance. Including a $500 fine or 60 days in jail. All issues concerning this ordinance and its implementation should be taken up with the City of Scott planning commission.
