Coach O: ‘I Think We Could Fill Up Tiger Stadium and Have a Great Year’
With more conferences reconsidering fall collegiate sports, LSU Football coach Ed Orgeron expressed the need for the sport to happen this year.
Coach O says "We definitely need football. We're gonna have football. There's obviously gonna be some adjustments."
While appearing on "Your World with Neil Cavuto" on the Fox News Channel, Coach Orgeron echoed points made during a visit with Mike Pence in Louisiana on Tuesday. He says he is optimistic about fans being able to attend games.
I think that if you do wear a mask and you do take a temperature and the right people come to the game, I think that we could fill up Tiger stadium and have a great year.
So far the Big10 and PAC12 have announced they will keep games within their conferences this year. Other power 5 conferences including the SEC have yet to announce a decision on schedule changes.
At a round table discussion with Vice President Mike Pence, Coach O said
We have our team back and we're ready to go. We need football. This state needs football. The country needs it.
Coach O also told a Baton Rouge radio station "I can't wait to play football. We need this season and I think we are going to play." The SEC has pushed the start date back for any fall sports to August 31st at the earliest to prepare for the safe return of students and faculty.
The LSU schedule has the Tigers hosting UTSA at Tiger Game on September 5th. The Texas Longhorns are scheduled to visit Baton Rouge on September 12th. But the out of conference schedules could change. Decision are being made as we speak.
