How Edouard's Remnants Will Impact Louisiana Football Games

(KMDL-FM) South Louisiana may have dodged the major part of a tropical bullet when Tropical Storm Edouard slipped south of the majority of Louisiana's coastline as it made landfall right at the Texas border on Tuesday.

The storm left a legacy of heavy rain in East Texas; it might be sharing some of that heavy rain with Louisiana just in time for Friday night football and the Labor Day weekend holiday.

Rains From Tropical Storm Dump More Than 2 Feet of Water on East Texas

Tropical Storm Edouard and its remnant rains have dropped some horrific rainfall totals over several counties in eastern Texas; one area around Woodville, Texas, is believed to have received almost two feet of rainfall over the past two days. The rain was still falling in that part of Texas early this morning.

Forecasters believe the remains of Edouard, along with the moisture and instability associated with the former tropical cyclone, will have a major impact on Louisiana's weather as we move into the long holiday weekend.

Heavy Rain Could Impact High School and College Football in Louisiana

Of course, high school and college football games will highlight the weekend, but Mother Nature might put a huge damper on those season openers. For teams that are in action tonight, Thursday games shouldn't be affected by storms as much as Friday's contests might. Here is the synopsis for tonight's games.

That graphic from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles gives you a great thumbnail sketch of what to expect this evening. It will be warm and humid, but the threat of showers should be gone by about the time games kick off.

The outlook for Friday is not nearly as rosy. In fact, I would not be surprised to hear that some games have to be delayed in their start time or might even be moved to another date because of inclement weather. Of course, the big danger is lightning, and unfortunately, lightning will accompany many of the larger storms forecast for Friday night.

Just for clarity, the further west you are today, the more likely your games will be affected by rain today. The further east you are, the more likely your game will be affected by rain on Friday.

How Will Weather Affect LSU, UL's Ragin Cajuns, and McNeese Football on Saturday?

For Saturday's college football games, the forecast is not very good for tailgating before the game, but it does appear as though rain chances will decrease by the time kickoff rolls around for LSU vs Clemson in Baton Rouge, UL's Ragin Cajuns vs Lamar in Lafayette, and McNeese vs Texas Wesleyan in Lake Charles.

Saturday's forecast calls for an 80% threat of showers and storms during the day. The rain should begin to taper off and come to an end by early evening. All three of the games we've referenced, all kick off after 6 pm on Saturday.

A threat of afternoon showers will remain across the area on Sunday, and the forecast for Labor Day suggests a typical summer day with temperatures in the middle 90s in the afternoon, with a threat of pop-up showers or thunderstorms.
