8 Times Common Sense Was Not Present in Acadiana

(KMDL-FM) South Louisiana residents are pretty smart. We have the kind of intelligence that allows a person to survive on their wits and the land. We have the kind of smarts that keep us one step ahead of danger and just to the left of trouble. Okay, we used to.

All you have to do is watch the traffic when it rains really hard. It's pretty evident which people were raised by South Louisiana parents and which ones were raised by episodes of The Wizards of Waverly Place. You know, entitled.

But somehow over the past few years, our grip on what's good and what qualifies as smart has slipped like the toupee that guy on TV 10 used to wear. Folks, if you haven't figured it out, Common Sense is on the endangered species list, even here in Acadiana.

We Can't Blame It All on Social Media, But That's a Good Place to Start

Now, not all of us have succumbed to the "wanna be dumb" attitude that is the prevailing wind on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and countless other apps that probably steal and sell our data and let us go viral for things that would embarrass our mothers.

But enough of us have, and for those of us who learned things the old way, you know, like following the rules, not getting killed, learning to drive, and paying our own way, it gets frustrating.

And these lapses in the art of not being stupid aren't the complete domain of the young and interneted. There are a lot of us old farts that are just as guilty, just as wrong, and just as stupid looking as the guy who uses the air hose at the gas station to make funny faces.
