A ceremony will be held in February to name an elementary school in Lafayette after slain police officer Michael Middlebrook.

The corporal was shot to death, officials say, by a man who was causing issues at a convenience store in October of 2017.

On Tuesday, February 19, a gathering at Plantation Elementary will held to officially rename the school, Michael Middlebrook Elementary.

Officials, family, fellow officers and other friends will gather at 10 o'clock that morning to cut the ribbon.

This is just another way that the community of Lafayette has come together to support Corporal Middlebrook's family in the wake of his murder.

Refreshments will be served after the ribbon cutting.

This is another honor for a man who have everything for his family and his community.
