With the holiday on Thursday, Hollywood got a jump on their new releases on Wednesday. The two big releases were Despicable Me 2 and The Lone Ranger.

Apparently, it was no competition as the animated flick raked in $34.3 million on Wednesday. At that pace, it was bring in up to $130 million by Sunday.

The Lone Ranger, however, only brought in $9.7 million on Wednesday. Not a great start for a movie that cost at least $250 million to make!

Apparently, the critics aren't exactly digging the Johnny Depp-Armie Hammer remake of the long-running television classic. A big complaint is that the story is told through Tonto's (Johnny Depp) point of view.
