The day after Thanksgiving isn't just a day where we take off work and invade stores well before the chickens rise to save a few bucks off our kids' new Playstation.

In Louisiana, this day is also a legal holiday.

The Friday after Thanksgiving is Acadian Day in the state. That means state offices will be closed along with some local offices.

The day commemorates "the arrival in Louisiana of the Acadian people from the French colony Acadia following the ceding of that colony to England in 1713," according to a 2017 proclamation signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards.

Now, this isn't something Gov. Edwards sprung on us. Previous governors have signed similar proclamations over the past several years.

Normal business hours will resume across the state on Monday, November 26.
