Do You Know What a Yellow Ribbon on a Dog Leash Means?
If you are a dog lover, then you will definitely need to pass this along. The Yellow Dog Project is a wonderful global non profit organization that helps promote awareness for owners of dogs that need space. DINOS, or Dogs in Need of Space, wear yellow ribbons attached to their leashes, which is like a yellow traffic light. It means, ask before petting.
This could be for a variety of reasons, and not necessarily because a pooch is aggressive. It could be that they are rescues, and maybe a little skittish, or are just fearful in social situations, kind of like some people! It could also be that they are service dogs in training, or are in the process of being trained in obedience.
In any case, if you see a yellow ribbon, scarf, or anything with that particular color attached to the leash of a dog, please be respectful, and ask before you approach.
