New forensic evidence reveals the survivor of a fatal crash in Acadia Parish was actually the intoxicated driver responsible for the accident.

On Aug. 15, Louisiana State Police arrested 34-year-old Eric Bergeaux of Basile on vehicular homicide and obstruction of justice charges — among others — for the wreck that killed 42-year-old Joseph Joseph II on Aug. 6.

Troop I Spokesperson Brooks David says the initial accident report listed Joseph as the driver of the 2009 Chevrolet truck that flipped into a ditch on LA 97. Upon further investigation, David says, police were able to prove Bergeaux was behind the wheel.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
