Early Morning Shooting in Opelousas Leaves One Dead
One person is dead in Opelousas following an early morning shooting on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said his office was notified just before 1:30 am that a male subject was dropped off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. The man later died from his injury.
Guidroz says that the homicide occurred at the KC Hall located off of Hwy 104 in Opelousas.
The investigation revealed that a group of people was at the hall when two vehicles were shot along with the victim.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Damien Joseph Lastrapes, Jr. of Opelousas.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been made available at this time.
