Wyatt Fontenot Brings X Games Gold To Louisiana

Opelousas native Wyatt "Wyo" Fontenot is officially an X Games gold medalist after taking home the top spot in the Moto X Best Whip competition at the 2026 X Games in New Orleans. The victory marks the first X Games gold of Fontenot's career and gives Louisiana another hometown sports hero to celebrate.

Riding inside the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Fontenot impressed judges with his style, control and massive "whip" tricks to earn the gold medal in Moto X Best Whip.

The win is especially meaningful because it comes just weeks after Fontenot earned a bronze medal at X Games Sacramento 2026, making this his biggest accomplishment yet in action sports.

The competition requires a rider to jump off a ramp 70 to 75 feet high. The goal is to throw the dirt bike completely sideways or even upside down while airborne. Riders must then skillfully bring the bike straight for a smooth landing.

A Huge Moment For Opelousas and Acadiana

Any time someone from Acadiana reaches the top of their sport, it's something worth celebrating.

Fontenot grew up in Opelousas, Louisiana, and has steadily climbed through the freestyle motocross ranks over the past several years. His journey hasn't been easy. Before making a name for himself in freestyle motocross, he raced professional motocross and battled through multiple knee surgeries before eventually shifting his focus to Moto X.
