Edwin Edwards Hospitalized – Could Be Released Today
Louisiana's most popular Governor, Edwin Edwards, was hospitalized late yesterday. Edwards was taken to our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge after he was found unresponsive at his residence yesterday.
According to reports, the 92-year-old Edwards was suffering from a drop in blood sugar. Edwards was reported to be in good spirits as he was being treated in the emergency room yesterday. His daughter, Anna Edwards, told the media that she had spoken to her father via telephone while she was en route to the hospital. She said that her father sounded good.
Edwards, sometimes known as the Cajun Prince, served four terms as Louisiana's Governor. He also served time in federal prison on racketeering charges related to riverboat casino licenses. Edwards' most recent foray into politics came in 2014 when he ran an unsuccessful campaign for Congress in Louisiana's 6th Congressional District.
Edwards was expected to be held overnight and could be released from the hospital as early as today.
