Eric Church turns his attention to politics in the final track he's teasing from his upcoming album, Desperate Man. The singer slams our divided two-party system in a new song titled "The Snake."

"The Snake" is the opening track from Desperate Man, and as with some of the other songs he's shared, Church pulls some influences from '70s classic rock on the track, which centers around a swampy acoustic guitar riff that's reminiscent of the Allman Brothers Band. He paints a bleak portrait of America's bitterly partisan politics, likening our two most influential parties to two snakes feeding on the electorate.

"Rattlesnake said to the copperhead / Ain't no way they win / 'Cause the mice are sheep / And the shepherd's asleep / And the copperhead said amen," Church says in a menacing half-whisper in the preview clip above.

10 Things You Didn't Know About Eric Church:

The superstar tells Rolling Stone that he couldn't bring himself to vote in the 2016 election, given the choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. He "just didn't see much" in Clinton, and in regard to Trump, he says, “I don’t want to vote for somebody I’ll regret voting for.”

He shared more of the lyrics of "The Snake" with Rolling Stone: “Rattlesnake, copperhead / Either one of them kill you dead / We stay hungry, they get fed. . . . And the whole world’s burning down."

Church believes many of his fans are as fed up with the political logjam as he is, whatever their party affiliation.

“Some of this stuff you look at and go, ‘What the f--k? Why is this hard?’ ” he says. “Why can we not get infrastructure done? Why don’t we do more clean energy? Why are [prescription] drugs so expensive? Because it’s a lobbyist-based system. It’s a money-based system. Either way, we’re f--ked.”

"The Snake" is the final track Church is previewing from Desperate Man, which is set for release on Oct. 5. He dropped the title song in July as the album's lead single, and he's also shared previews of "Heart Like a Wheel." "Some of It," "Hangin' Around," "Monsters" and "Jukebox and a Bar."

Church will launch his 2019 Double Down Tour on Jan. 18 in Omaha, Neb. The upcoming shows will feature Church performing two unique three-hour shows on back-to-back nights in every city on the tour.
