Breaux Bridge Police Department are investigating a fatal crash on I-10.

KATC reports according to the Breaux Bridge Police Department, shortly after midnight on 01/01/21, they received a call about an accident in westbound lane of I-10 near the exit ramp.

Assistant Chief Terry Latiolais says the initial call was about a single vehicle that had crashed into the concrete barriers on I-10. KATC reports the vehicle hit the barriers and had come to a stop. Other drivers, seeing the accident, stopped to help.

A second vehicle that was traveling westbound on I-10 then crashed into the immobilized vehicle involved in the initial accident, striking two people at the scene as well. One person was seriously injured, and the other person struck was reportedly ejected over a concrete barrier into the eastbound lanes.

"Investigators say shortly after, an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound struck and killed 20-year-old Robin Theriot, of St Martinville. The other injured person was transported to St Martin Hospital and later to another hospital in serious, but stable condition."
