Residents impacted by Hurricane Laura now have another month to register for FEMA disaster assistance. FEMA Spokesperson Melissa Wilkins says homeowners and renters can apply for aid which includes temporary housing, rental assistance and to repair or replace damage to property.

“So far we’ve registered just over 218,000 households, but we want to make sure that everyone has had enough time to register. So that extension is going to be thru November 27th,” says Wilkins.

Wilkins says there are three ways residents you can register for assistance…

“Either online as DisasterAssistance.gov. We have a mobile app that you can download in the Apple Store or you can call 1-800-621-FEMA,” says Wilkins

Wilkins says FEMA assistance can cover a range of expenses from housing to medical care.

“We’re trying to help make sure that homes are safe, sanitary, and functional. So, it can cover air conditioning systems or refrigerators. There is so many different programs and services that we offer. We just want to help families recover as soon as possible,” says Wilkins.

The deadline for those impacted by Hurricane Delta has been extended to December 15th.
