Federal investigators are looking into false claims that resulted in an overpayment of funds to a former Sergeant Major with the Louisiana National Guard. In the indictment, federal prosecutors allege that Randy M. Kiley Sr., 63, of Slidell, intentionally misrepresented the truth on federal forms in order to obtain more pay.

According to United States Attorney Kenneth Polite's office, two counts of wire fraud and two counts of making false statements have been levied against Kiley. These charges are based on incidents that occurred while Kiley was serving a Jackson Barracks in New Orleans.

The accusations are based on forms submitted by Kiley in which he claimed to be married and have dependent children. Kiley and his wife divorced in the Summer of 2005. The wife was given full custody of the couple's two dependent children at that time.

In documents signed and submitted by Kiley between 2005 and 2014 Kiley claimed to have still been married and still have dependent children. These circumstances would have entitled Kiley to Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH), a type of supplemental pay available to eligible active-duty service members.

It is also alleged that Kiley submitted paperwork on two different occasions that did not acknowledge his divorce which would have entitled to additional Family Separation Allowance pay.

Kiley is facing a prison sentence of up to 20 years and $250 thousand dollars in  fines if he is convicted on the charges that have been brought against him.
