This weekend in Carencro was set to be a grand time for the 2022 Glow in the Cro Hot Air Balloon Festival at Pelican Park. Unfortunately, we will all have to wait until 2023 to enjoy the fun.

Organizers have announced they have made the tough decision to pull the plug and cancel this year's Glow in the Cro due to heavy rains over the past several weeks (including a pretty heavy downpour in Carencro last night).

Pelican Park Director Frank Wittenberg said in a press release today that the grounds are saturated and that presents issues getting equipment in and out of the grounds.

Additionally, because of the wet conditions, the carnival rides had already been canceled.

On top of all that, the current forecast for Friday and Saturday includes decent chances of rain.

"We want to make sure we do not put any spectator at risk or needlessly waste funding to put on an event of this magnitude," said Wittenberg. "Therefore, after much discussion and deliberation about our current weather patterns and the forecast for this coming weekend, we regretfully announce the cancellation of this year’s event."

The good news is that planning is already underway for the 2023 Glow in the Cro event and it's shaping up to be bigger and better than the inaugural event in 2019.
