Governor John Bel Edwards has released an official proclamation about one of Louisiana's most beloved traditions. If you've ever been in New Orleans on a Monday or stopped into one of our amazing local eateries across the state, you have no doubt dove into a big bowl of red beans and rice. (And of course, we like to add sausage to that, sha) We are lucky to have such tasty treats representing our cajun and creole heritage here in the Bayou State!

And on Monday, March 22, the state of Louisiana will officially celebrate "Red Beans and Rice Day". Governor Edwards has partnered up with three iconic brands, Cajun Country Rice, Camellia Brand and Savoie’s® Foods to get the word out about one of our most famous dishes. And we are proud that two of those amazing companies are based right here in Acadiana. In conjunction with the statewide recognition on March 22, the three companies are also working in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

According to an official press release about the event, Freddie Lafleur, CEO of Savoie’s® Foods, which is based in Opelousas said “We are thrilled that Gov. Edwards has seen fit to help us shine a light on this iconic Louisiana food and its nearly 200-year history. We want to do our part to make sure as many people as possible can join in the meal on March 22 and beyond.” Sounds like an absolutely delicious way to kick off your week, fellow Louisianians.
