Motorist are still being detoured around a fiery crash that claimed one life yesterday. The incident near milepost 127 happened yesterday afternoon just before 5pm. As of 7am Saturday morning motorist are still being detoured around the basin bridge via U.S. 190. There were four 18 wheelers involved in the incident. According to reports the trailer of one of the tractor trailer rigs fell over the side of the bridge into the basin below. State police are reporting that none of the trucks were carrying hazardous materials. There has been no speculation about when the roadway  might be reopened for traffic this morning.

 

[Original Story] As you can see in the picture below, an 18-wheeler fire is causing major traffic issues on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge on I-10.

According to Louisiana State Police, I-10 eastbound and westbound at mile post 127 (Whiskey Bay exit) is closed. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes.
