If you're planning to head eastbound to Baton Rouge or New Orleans this weekend, you may want to consider an alternate route.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development, emergency roadwork will have I-10 eastbound down to one lane for the next two weekends near Henderson.

The lane closures will start at the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge to Lake Pelba (MM 122) beginning Friday, August 18 at 8:00 pm and last until noon on Tuesday, August 22.

The closures will take place again beginning at 8:00 pm on Friday, August 25 until noon on Tuesday, August 29 to allow contractors to finish the repairs.

The closures are necessary for the DOTD to replace a broken finger joint on the bridge near the Butte La Rose exit.

The lane closures will start at the beginning of the bridge to make emergency response easier should the need arise.

Travelers should expect heavy delays during the repair work, so motorists are advised to take I-49 north to US 190 east toward Baton Rouge as an alternate route.
