The opposing lane (the northwest-bound lane) will remain open. The westbound outside lane on Congress Street will also be closed.

Why These Lanes Are Closing: New Traffic Signal and Sidewalks

The reason for the closure? Construction crews will be installing and pouring concrete footings in preparation of a new, permanent traffic signal expected to be installed in November. It will replace the temporary signal currently in place and it will also improve pedestrian safety with dedicated crossing signals.

New sidewalks are also being constructed which should improve walkability and safety near Lafayette High School.
