It's not a subject that we have had to discuss that much during this pandemic fall session of school. That subject is school violence. There are a couple of obvious reasons why the subject hasn't been in the headlines but yesterday in Calcasieu Parish the dark specter of gun violence in our schools once again made an appearance.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Deputy who serves as a resource officer for Iowa High School was notified shortly after lunch of a potential problem at the school. According to reports law enforcement agents were informed of a student making threats and allegations about a shooting at the school. According to the information gleaned by detectives, the student would be "trigger happy" and kill as many students as he could.

The student, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested and charged with terrorizing. He also had an electronic cigarette in his possession and is facing charges on that as well.

The incident is being fully investigated by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department as well as school officials at Iowa High. The student who was arrested was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
