It has been rumored for a while, and now it's officially happening. Mississippi is getting its first Buc-ee's.

The mega-convenience store closed a deal last week on a 43-acre property in Harrison County.

The location is on the northwest corner of Firetower Rd. and the I-10 interchange, ironically, right across from a Chevron. This is roughly between Bay St. Louis and Gulfport.

There's no word yet though when ground will be broken on the highly anticipated project.

Back in July 2021, development leaders in Harrison County announced that Buc-ee's was going to invest $50 million into its first-ever Mississippi store. The Board of Supervisors later agreed to invest an additional $15 million into infrastructure at the location to help support the 80,000 square foot business.

Improvements will include widening Menge Ave. from two to five lanes and lengthening the ramps entering and exiting I-10 to handle the expected traffic increase.

This new location will give those heading to vacation in places like Gulf Shores and Destin another stop along the way. By now, you're probably aware of the Buc-ee's Travel Center in Loxley, Alabama that is a huge draw for travelers along the Gulf Coast.

Currently, Buc-ee's has more than 50 locations in Texas, Florida, Alabama and Georgia with more states, like Tennessee, in the plans.

Sadly, Louisianians don't have a home state Buc-ee's to frequent. It's nearly infamous by now that there were plans in 2016 to open a location in Baton Rouge off I-12 but those dreams came crashing down because the company could not secure the location.
