Cajun And Louisiana Music Star Damon Troy Suffers A Stroke

We have some news out of the Louisiana music world. Cajun music star Damon Troy has reportedly suffered a stroke. The singer, songwriter, and musician apparently suffered a stroke last Friday night, October 27th, 2023 after performing a live concert.

Damon Troy whose real name is Damon Dugas is a staple of Cajun and Louisiana music over a couple of decades now in our area. Damon's first album was released in 1999 before he was even 20 years old on the Sugartown record label.

His follow-up album Blowin' Like A Hurricane made him a bonified Cajun music star Damon is a talented musician as he usually plays the accordion in his shows but you may see him jump on the keyboard or play the drums too.

For us, Damon is a phenomenal singer. His powerful delivery of those hit ballads has you making those Yes faces and wanting to snuggle up on the dance floor with that someone special.

Damon is known for hits like Heartbroken Little Boy, Fool, She's Mine, Like A Fool, Give Me Your Heart, Shortnin' Bread, Whatcha Doing To Me, Triangle Club Special, I Know A Little About Love, Misery, Stand By You, and the song mentioned above,  Blowin' Like A Hurricane.  

A statement was issued by Angel Chauvin on Facebook and she said,

I’m sure the word has spread fast. But for those that don’t know, Damon had a stroke Friday night after a show. He is still suffering from numbness, tingling and weakness on the entire right side of his body, but he is recovering well. He’s having a little trouble with word retrieval but the speech therapist feels confident that he will regain everything 100%. He has a long road ahead. Hopefully he will be released tomorrow morning but then he will have weeks or months of physical therapy and speech therapy to get back to normal. If y’all could send some prayers his way I would really appreciate it!
