Ben was a trusted voice for weather in Southwest Louisiana and was there for the community during hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020. Ben got the support of the area during this time as he dedicated his time to making sure SWLA knew the latest on the storms.

Ben was a trusted voice during very scary times here in Southwest Louisiana. Before the hurricane, and during the hurricane coverage, a viewer posted on Ben's Facebook Page stating “I don’t recall news casting [sic] allowing the use of absolute language and opinions before. I believe it is very unprofessional and promotes fear and panic.”

In typical Ben fashion, he saw the post after the hurricane, and simply replied, “Change the channel then.” It was the phrase that launched thousands of memes. That immediately became the Ben Terry Signature Phrase. It became one of the biggest inside jokes in a community full of the devastation Laura had wrought. Once the memes began to go viral, Terry said his first thought was what his boss was going to think about him telling people to “change the channel.”

Coffee Mugs and T-Shirts were eventually made with Ben's "Change The Channel" phrase on them, and they used the funds to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sister of SWLA.

The famous t-shirts are going back on sale again, and this time a portion of the funds will be going to the newly established Ben Terry Fund with the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana.
