(Lafayette, Louisiana) - The 2025 college football season is almost here, and the Ragin Cajuns Head Football Coach, Michael Desormeaux, sat down to talk football with Baton Rouge Sports Reporter Jacques Doucet.

In a 45-minute interview with WAFB's Jacques Doucet, Coach Desormeaux spoke about the upcoming season and talked about the notable players he has on this year's team.

Then, at one point in the interview, Doucet asked how the Cajuns coach would feel about playing the LSU Tigers on the gridiron, and Desormeaux did not hesitate when he said he'd love the opportunity.

As a player, Coach Desormeaux played in Tiger Stadium against the Tigers, and he said it was a moment he'd never forget. Current LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly has said in previous interviews that he thinks it's good for the state to see in-state schools play in Baton Rouge.

In 2023, Grambling played in Tiger Stadium against the Tigers, and in 2024, it was Nicholls who made the drive over to Baton Rouge—this year. LSU welcomes Louisiana Tech to "Death Valley" for some in-state competition.

So, could we once again see UL and LSU compete against one another on the football field? My gut feeling is that they will one day, and that's a great thing.

Not only would this be an easy trip for the Cajuns to take down I-10, but it would be great for both fan bases, who both take pride in their football programs. And while there's genuinely no rivalry between the Cajuns and Tigers football teams, there appears to be one between both fan bases.

Football History Record for UL and LSU

If you're wondering, the last time the Cajuns and the Tigers faced off on the football field it was in 2009, and LSU won the game 31-3. As for the history between the two Louisiana football programs, well, they've played 20 times in the school's history, and LSU has won all 20 games.

Still, it's time for UL and LSU to face off again in "Death Valley." Not only would the Cajuns leave with a nice check for playing LSU in Baton Rouge, but fans would enjoy one heck of a tailgate party when and if they come together in the future.

Here's Coach Desormeaux talking about the chance of playing LSU in the future.

For Cajuns fans, we think you'll like all that Coach Desormeaux had to say about his team this year, and here's his full interview with WAFB and Jacques Doucet.
