
Ambulance Stolen in Louisiana, Takes Wild Ride with EMTs and Patient Onboard
A shocking situation unfolded in the Big Easy as a woman hopped behind the wheel of a New Orleans EMS ambulance with two EMTs and their patient still inside, taking them on an unexpected journey from Mid-City to the Seventh Ward. According to New Orleans Police, the incident began around 6:50 p.m. while the ambulance crew was treating a man for dizziness outside the Ozanam Inn on Poydras Street.
According to FOX 8, he woman, who was not involved in the patient’s care, suddenly entered the driver’s cab of the vehicle and took off. The ambulance sped down Poydras Street, made a sharp turn onto Broad Street, and continued on a wild ride through the city. Meanwhile, additional EMS units followed, keeping local law enforcement updated on the ambulance’s whereabouts.
New Orleans Police say that the pursuit ended roughly 2.6 miles later, when the woman stopped at the intersection of Agriculture Street. EMS vehicles blocked the ambulance’s path, and police officers arrived on the scene to assist. The woman was removed from the vehicle by EMS personnel and was immediately taken into custody. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the EMTs, the patient, or others involved.
Following her arrest, the woman was transported to University Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. Authorities have yet to release her identity, but officials confirm that she will face charges, including simple kidnapping and various traffic offenses, upon her discharge.
