Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened late Saturday night on the U.S. 90 Eastbound Frontage road near Louisiana Highway 83. According to Louisiana State Police Spokeswoman Senior Trooper Peggy Bourque, only one vehicle crashed, and the driver was ejected.

In their initial report, troopers say it appears that 40-year-old Remus Tardy of Baldwin was driving down the frontage road and lost control. As he tried to correct what happened, the vehicle overturned, and that is when Tardy was partially ejected from his vehicle.

As they investigated further, they learned that Tardy was not wearing his seatbelt when the car crashed. A passenger who was in the vehicle with Tardy was taken to a local hospital for treatment while Tardy was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is standard in any case, routine blood samples were taken from the driver which will be submitted to a lab for standard toxicology tests.

Bourque says Louisiana State Police officials want to remind drivers of these important things to remember while driving:

  • Wearing a seat belt correctly can significantly improve your chances of survival and reduce severe injuries
  • Make sure your seat belt is properly positioned across your hips and shoulders
  • Make sure that any child in a vehicle is in their appropriate car seats and that they are installed correctly.
  • Don't let distractions disrupt you from driving safely
  • Always follow all driving laws
