JENNINGS, La. - Homecoming week is supposed to be about school spirit, football, friends and a little harmless fun.

But police in Jennings say some of this year's homecoming activity crossed a pretty serious line.

The Jennings Police Department is now taking a zero-tolerance approach to homecoming-related vandalism, unsafe driving and other criminal activity after several incidents were reported around town.

A recent and disturbing incident involves a 15-year-old student who police say was tied to a pole at Houssiere Park, covered in mustard, dead fish, and more, and then left there by other students.

15-Year-Old Found Tied To Pole At Jennings, Louisiana Park

According to Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes, the incident happened Wednesday night at Houssiere Park.

Police say the 15-year-old was tied to a pole and covered with a variety of substances, including shaving cream, mustard and dish soap. Dead fish were also reportedly involved.

The teenager was eventually left at the park, and the student's parents had to come pick the child up, according to police. As far as we know, no injuries have been reported and the student is OK.

Chief Semmes said he contacted school administrators Thursday morning after learning about what happened.

While some homecoming pranks might be considered a long-standing tradition, police say this incident went far beyond anything that could reasonably be considered harmless fun.

Chief Semmes tells KPLC -

I’ve contacted the school administrators and advised them to let the students know. So, zero tolerance, no more warnings. We’re going to enforce the law, and we’re not going to tolerate any more of it.

Police Also Investigating BB Gun Incident

he park incident wasn't the only problem Jennings police dealt with during homecoming week. Police say students also entered a local business Wednesday night and fired plastic BB guns at people inside.

The people who were struck were reportedly innocent bystanders and were not students.
