Violent crimes happen all around us. They are particularly disturbing when they happen in small towns. What is even more disturbing is when a violent crime takes place in the presence of more than 100 potential witnesses and none of those witnesses are willing to come forward with information that will lead to the arrest of those responsible.

This is exactly what is going on in Jennings. This past Friday night there was a private party at the Ward Event Center on South Main Street. Over 150 people were in attendance at that party. During the course of the evening, something must have gone horribly wrong because a young man was killed by gunfire.

That young man, 22-year-old Dakota Chiasson died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Yet no one in attendance at the party has come forward with information that could help Jennings Police identify and arrest a suspect.

Perhaps it's peer pressure. Perhaps it's the fear of retribution by others in the community, perhaps it's just cowardice and lack of respect for the people who live in the community. Hiding the bad guys isn't going to make crime go away. Help police make the bad guys go away, that's what's going to make your community safer.

So, come on Jennings. It's time to get out of that Warn a Brutha mentality that you've learned about from t-shirts and bad movies. If you know something about this senseless killing you may phone in your tip anonymously. (337) 275-9002
