(KMDL-FM) Perhaps the best line of business you could get into in the nation's current economic climate would be to open a printing shop that makes nothing but "Sorry We're Closed" signs. There certainly does seem to be a growing need for those kinds of signs, and if you follow jewelry trends, you might be shocked to learn that a popular jewelry company is about to need 100 of those "Closed" signs.

The name Signet Jewelers might not ring a bell for you immediately, but I bet some of their many brands will be familiar names. If you've ever been in any shopping mall in America, you know "Every kiss begins with Kay" and the name Kay Jewelers. If you've ever uttered the phrase "He went to Jared, or if you are familiar with "The Diamond Store," also known as Zales, then you're familiar with Signet Jewelers.

Who Owns Kay Jewelers, Zales, and Jared?

Those three brands make up the core of Signet Jewelers, a company that recorded nearly $6.8 billion in profits last year. But, evidently, $6.8 billion is not enough to keep all the doors open. That's the speculation that was raised during a recent earnings call.

During that call, it was revealed that Signet Jewelers had plans to shutter 100 stores across its footprint. It was also revealed on the call that Kay Jewelers, Jared, and Zales would become the priority focus for the company. But it was unclear how many and which of those brands might see closures in the coming fiscal year.

Signet Jewelers has been in operation for almost 80 years. In addition to the brands we've already mentioned, they also operate Banter by Piercing Pagoda, Diamonds Direct, Blue Nile, James Allen, Peoples Jewellers, and Rocksbox in the U.S., and H.Samuel and Ernest Jones in the UK.

During the earnings call, it was announced that the James Allen brand would be folded into Blue Nile. The James Allen standalone website should cease operations during Q2 of fiscal year 2027, according to the press release.  Rocksbox would be integrated into the Kay Jewelers brand. That is expected to happen during this fiscal year.

The total number of stores for each brand and where those stores are located have not been revealed. We can only assume the company is assessing each location for profitability and viability in the ever-changing jewelry marketplace.

How Many Locations of Zales, Kay Jewelers, and Jared are in Louisiana?

In Louisiana, there are currently 18 locations of Kay Jewelers, there are a dozen locations of Zales, and Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Metairie are home to Louisiana's only locations of Jared. Again, it is unclear if any of these locations will be affected by the current restructuring of Signet Jewelers, the parent company.
