Tractor Supply Plans To Close 75 Petsense Stores Across The Country

(KMDL-FM) In the world of agriculture, those who understand the laws of nature realize that sometimes for a plant to grow, you have to cut it back just a little bit. And it's this down-on-the-farm kind of wisdom that appears to be the driving force in a recent announcement by Tractor Supply Stores. The brand has announced plans to shutter some 75 underperforming Petsense Stores as part of a cutback, posturing for recommitted growth.

Where Are Petsense Stores Located in Louisiana?

Tractor Supply operates Petsense Stores in Abbeville, LaPlace, Leesville, Opelousas, Pineville, Ruston, Sulphur, Thibodaux, Vidalia, West Monroe, and Zachary, Louisiana. These eleven locations are part of the brand's 209 store footprint across the nation.

Petsense Stores are pet specialty retailers owned by Tractor Supply and its parent company. The stores offer premium brand pet foods and supplies as well as professional grooming, and they also offer in-store adoption or host pet adoption events regularly.

The announcement from Tractor Supply comes as part of the Q2 Earnings Call, in which company leaders noted that store sales fell about 1.5%. However, news of that decline was tempered by the fact that America experienced some of its highest fuel prices in decades during that time. The high cost of fuel and higher costs of fertilizers no doubt played a part in the less-than-stellar economic report.

Which Petsense Stores Will Be Closing?

Brand leaders did not elaborate or offer specific details on which Petsense locations would be shuttered. They did offer what should still be viewed as encouraging news on the expansion of the brand.

According to details from the Q2 call, Tractor Supply still plans to expand its footprint by 85 to 90 new stores in 2027. However, that projection is down from a more robust prediction of 100 new stores the chain had initially planned on opening.

Lafayette, Louisiana, will be getting a new Tractor Supply store in just a few days as the Ridge Road location of the brand has announced plans for a grand opening celebration on August 8th.

That store is located at 262 Ridge Road; it's just off Ambassador Caffery Parkway across from WCC Furniture.
