Jimmy Buffett's Unreleased Songs Span Two Decades On New Album

(KMDL-FM) Fans of the late Gulf South crooner and showman Jimmy Buffett will be pleased to know that there will be a "new" Jimmy Buffett album released in the very near future. The project won't be a rehased greatest hits project; instead, it will feature songs that have been recorded over the past two decades but weren't released on any of Buffett's albums.

The driving force behind the project is two of Jimmy's trusted sidemen and collaborators, Mac McAnally and Michael Utley. Utley was the band leader and keyboardist for Jimmy's Coral Reefer Band for decades; McAnally was a part of the band and frequently wrote songs that Buffett recorded. Posthumous Jimmy Buffett Album Will Feature New Songs We Haven't Heard

According to McAnally, the music on the posthumous release will be songs that Jimmy recorded from 2003 until the time of his passing. Many of the recordings were featured in very limited releases because they were part of television shows or feature films.

McAnally told Al.com that none of the songs on the upcoming release have ever been on a Jimmy Buffett album; one of those songs, Workin' n' Playin', has been featured in the Coral Reefer Band's sets as they have played shows while touring this summer.

When Will the New Jimmy Buffett Album Be Released?

There has been no official release date set for the album. The project doesn't even have a title as of now, but according to McAnally, the music is pure Jimmy, and you can hear him smiling in every song.

Jimmy Buffett passed away at the age of 76 on September 1, 2023. He was surrounded at the time of his passing by family, friends, music, and his dogs. In addition to his musical success, Buffett was an acclaimed best-selling author and successful business entrepreneur.

McAnally and the Coral Reefer Band are set to play a show in Mobile, Alabama, Jimmy's hometown, on September 11. That show, Margaritas & Memories, will take place the night before a massive new Jimmy Buffett exhibit opens at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf.
