How To Keep Beer Cold In South Louisiana Heat

(KMDL-FM) This time of year, summer in South Louisiana, is not conducive to keeping beer cold. Fortunately, those who enjoy a nice cold adult beverage have found a way to make the ice in their coolers last longer, keep the beer colder, and they don't have to plunk down big bucks for a high-dollar ice chest.

And based on our not-so-scientific approach to math, we believe you can accomplish the same results offered by those big-buck ice chests by using about .12 cents' worth of a product you already have in your house. And it's something most of us will purchase more of for our July 4th cookout.

Add This Inexpensive Product to Your Ice Chest to Keep Beverages Colder Longer

The product? It's aluminum foil. The same shiny stuff that keeps the hot sun from baking your trailer windows can keep your beer colder for several extra hours, even if you're only using a buck fifty Styrofoam ice chest.

All you have to do is line the inside of the not-so-expensive ice chest with aluminum foil. The foil, which keeps heat in for cooking, will do the same thing for the cold in your chill chest. Based on my personal experience, the ice in the chest will last two to three hours longer than without it.

And no, this isn't some crazy conspiracy theory. It actually works. The foil not only helps keep the colder air in, but it blocks sunlight from sneaking through any of the cracks your "bought it at Buc-ee's five years ago" ice chest might have.

And if you really want to enhance the chill in your chest, bring the ice chest inside for several hours before you start the process of lining it with foil and adding drinks and ice. The daytime heating will make your chest warm in the beginning if you don't.
