Kenner, Louisiana Police Officer Fired After Allegedly Accepting Cash During Traffic Stop

A Kenner Police officer was arrested over the weekend after allegedly accepting cash from a motorist during a traffic stop instead of making an arrest.

Trey Carter, 28, of Kenner, was arrested this past Saturday, August 19 on charges of Malfeasance in Office and Extortion. He was also terminated from the Kenner Police Department.

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said he received reports on Saturday regarding possible misconduct during a traffic stop and he immediately launched an investigation.

He would later learn that Carter allegedly accepted cash from a motorist instead of arresting the man during a traffic stop in the early hours of August 19. Conley said they found "irregularities" and "questionable conduct" after reviewing audio records and paperwork related to the traffic stop.

“The men and women of the Kenner Police Department work hard day and night to serve their community and have a stellar reputation, we will never tolerate this type of behavior- no one is above the law,” said Chief Conley.

Carter had not been with the Kenner Police Department for a long time. He joined in August 2022 and completed the Field Training Program in March 2023. Carter had only been on the road patrolling for about three weeks, according to Conley.
