South Louisiana has some of the finest medical facilities in the nation. These facilities are staffed with some of the best trained, most compassionate medical professionals I have ever met. Now, Lafayette General Hospital has announced plans to explore the possibility of a merger with another great South Louisiana medical facility. That would be American Legion Hospital in Jennings.

With the announcement of a letter of intent to explore a merger yesterday it just seemed like the next logical step as far as the synergy between the two hospitals is concerned. There has been a clinical affiliation in place between the two facilities since 2016.

According to reports, the proposed agreement will be structured like this. Lafayette General will sign a multi-year lease of the hospital, its clinics, physical plant and equipment with the local American Legion Post.

More specific details of the lease/management agreement will be finalized over the next several months as each facility does its own due diligence. According to the agreement the hope is to have things finalized by Fall of 2020 with the final execution of the agreement to take place on or near October first of next year.

For more specifics on the agreement and Lafayette General's plans to merge with the Ochsner Health System can be found here.
