Lafayette General Foundation Announces Mayci Breaux Scholarship Winners
Lafayette General Foundation is honored to announce the first recipients of the Mayci Breaux Scholarship Fund. The announcement comes on a special day, as September 25 is Mayci’s birthday.
Tayler Montet of Maurice, La., and Nikki Blanchard of Broussard, La., are the initial scholarship award recipients.
The scholarship began with a $100 donation from an anonymous donor in Montana just one day after the Grand Theatre shooting. Numerous donations followed, including many from LGH employees, helping the fund grow to $20,000. The day before the fund was publically announced, Bo and Jerry Ramsay donated $5,000 on behalf of all of the survivors and everyone affected by the shooting.
After learning about the launch of the scholarship, comedian Amy Schumer, star of the movie Trainwreck, donated $25,000 to the fund.
Mayci Breaux graduated from Hanson Memorial High School in 2012 and attended Louisiana State University at Eunice (LSUE), where she was studying to become an ultrasound and radiologic technologist. Her scholarship fund, now up to $50,000, is endowed through Goldman Sachs, ensuring the longevity of the scholarship.
Scholarship recipient Tayler Montet attended class with Mayci at LSUE. “She was such a happy and positive person,” says Montet. “I really want to finish what Mayci started.”
Recipient Nikki Blanchard, who is also enrolled at LSUE, explained, “With tuition, books and our first child on the way, this scholarship is very important to us. To have a scholarship for women, specifically in this field, it’s just awesome.”
The Mayci Breaux Scholarship is awarded to female Louisiana residents enrolled in a radiologic technology program at a Louisiana college/university. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above at the time of application. To learn more about the scholarship fund, make a donation or apply online, visit LafayetteGeneral.com/MayciBreaux
