Saturday Night in the Southwest Little League baseball regionals in Waco Texas the Louisiana State Champions from Lafayette took care of business. This time the bayou boys did not let an early lead slip away as they had done the night before. Lafayette took a 6-0 lead into the third inning before the team from Whitehall Arkansas got on the board with 3. Memories of a wild game the night before and some timely hitting put a stop to the Arkansas threat as Lafayette dug in and posted 5 in their half of the inning. The game ended in the 5th when Lafayette posted a walk off two run homer to close out the game 13-3. It is an off day for the Lafayette squad today. On Monday it will be a battle between the two undeafeated teams in the pool when Lafayette and Texas East out of Pearland meet in at 6pm.

( Friday 's Game)I have a friend who writes for the newspaper in town. He swears baseball is the perfect game. His reasons for saying that include the facts that the action is not dictated by a clock and that even with only one out left you can still win the game. For those who tuned into our sister station SportsRadio ESPN 1420 for the Lafayette Little League SouthWest Regional game in Waco last night. You might have turned off the radio and thought this one is in the bag. You would have been very wrong.

The Lafayette team got off to a fast start thanks to a long ball by my personal friend and  next door neighbor Austin Primeaux. That's Austin with the big smile and the home run ball pictured in this article.  Over the next four innings Lafayette was on cruise control pulling out to an 8 run lead over West Texas. That is when things got really interesting. The team from West Texas located their hitting clothes and at the end of 6 innings, regulation in Little League, the game was tied.

Extra innings saw the West Texas crew scoring three in the top of the 8th inning only to find a gritty group of never say quit boys for Louisiana up to the challenge. In the bottom of the 8th the Lafayette crew plated 4 and took the game to the win column. The  final score was Lafayette 12, West Texas 11.

Lafayette's next action will be tonight, Saturday, at 6pm against the team from White Hall Arkansas. The team from Arkansas lost yesterday to the team from Pearland Texas who Lafayette will face Monday night at 6pm. You can listen to the broadcast of the game tonight on our sister station Sportsradio ESPN 1420 with James P. "Power River" Bitterman behind the microphone. A reminder you can also hear the game by downloading the RadioPup Application for your smart phone.
