Teachers in Lafayette Parish Schools will no longer grade homework assignments for most students.

According to The Advertiser, the Lafayette Parish School System voted 7-1 to no longer have teachers grade homework assignments for students in grades second -12th.

This decision comes as part of the 2018-19 pupil progression plan. After hearing from educators and parents the board elected to have teachers NOT grade homework within the parish.

Teachers will still be able to comment on a student's homework assignment, but will not be able to grade the student's performance.

Some argue that this will discourage students from doing homework, yet others say that this may encourage kids to do their homework.

With this latest this decision, parents will now have to be a bit more alert when it comes to monitoring their kid's homework assignments. Now that teachers will NOT be grading assignments, kids may not be as motivated to complete their assignments, thus causing grades to slip.
