Several Louisiana cities made the top twenty list on Wallet Hub survey of 2018 Fattest Cities.

Lafayette came in number 13 when it comes to the Fattest Cities in America.

Here is what the Wallet Hub survey found about the data concerning Lafayette:

  • 49th – % of Overweight Adults
  • 15th – % of Obese Adults
  • 2nd – % of Physically Inactive Adults
  • 51st – % of Adults with High Cholesterol
  • 17th – % of Adults with Diabetes
  • 41st – % of Adults with High Blood Pressure

There is a variety of statistical information now about how fat we are as a country. As of last year, 40 percent of people across America are considered, not just fat, but obese.

But what does obese really mean? Here is what Merriam-Webster says:

"a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body".

You can find your Body Mass Index to determine if you are considered obese.

If you think Lafayette's number is bad, the Shreveport-Bossier area is 2nd in the nation when it comes to the fattest cities for 2018.

Also making the list, Baton Rouge is number 9 and New Orleans is number 30.
