Lafayette TV Station For Sale? Reports Suggest It Is
(Lafayette, LA) In the world of television, at least in South Louisiana, there are a few things you can count on. Viewers in Lafayette, Youngsville, Broussard, and surrounding cities in surrounding parishes know that when they punch the "on" button on their remotes, there are certain things they are going to see.
There will be an abundance of "judge shows" shown in the middle of the day for the homebound, unemployed, and basically bored. There will be at least one weather forecaster who will show a tropical hurricane model pointing a direct landfall in Acadiana. And, there will be commercials for attorneys. Lots of commercials for attorneys.

Okay, I am just kidding for my broadcast brethren who need pictures to tell their story. I do have a lot of respect for the job you do.
The Lafayette and Acadiana Television market is actually pretty strong. The people who work at those broadcast outlets are as dedicated as any employee can be for that kind of money. And yes, you should be earning more for your hard work and dedication to the job. Think about it, how much money would you need to earn to broadcast live from outside during a hurricane? It's a helluva lot more than what they're getting paid.
And while it's popular to visit a local TV station's social media site and "be mean, rude, and uninformed," I think most of us would miss any of our TV stations if they went away. That's why it might be a concern that a broadcast property that operates in Acadiana is reportedly on the block, along with 28 other broadcast outlets owned by the same parent company.
What Lafayette TV Station is Being Sold?
The parent company in question is Allen Media. Six years ago, that company made huge strides in the industry, spending millions of dollars to acquire stations that had major network affiliations. One of those stations was KADN. That's channel 15 here in Acadiana.
According to reports, the principles behind Allen Media are in discussions with potential suitors who might be interested in some or all of their broadcast properties. Depending on the structure and value of those unconfirmed offers, the company could be divesting itself of KADN and other properties within the group.
In the past few months, Allen Media has been tagged as being "consistently late" in making payments to its network owners. The value of those payments has reportedly been in the tens of millions of dollars. Needless to say, the divestiture of at least some of the 28 TV stations in the 21 markets that Allen Media serves could help that company's cash flow and financial spreadsheets.
What Will Happen To KADN Employees?
Does this mean KADN is going to be sold? No. Does it mean KADN could be sold? Yes. Everything is for sale. Let's just hope that if a sale does go through that those who take over will realize the value of KADN and the people that work there. Although Allen Media has not addressed how any sale of any properties might impact the affected stations or those who work there.
