I just don't see how people who live north of Alexandria make it through the winter months. The walk from my car to the parking lot was enough to take my breath away. The cold was bad enough but the wind along with the cold really made me wish I had been wearing pants. The smart citizen of south Louisiana will forgo the comfort of gym shorts and opt for at least sweat pants today, it's quite cold.

At 3am the temperature at the Lafayette airport was 33 degrees. It is expected that before sunrise in about 3 hours the temperature will drop below the freezing mark. Those who live north of U.S. Highway 190 can expect colder temperatures for an even longer period of time. The National Weather Service issued a hard freeze warning in anticipation of these frigid temperatures. The cold could cause some slight damage to warm weather plants. Hopefully pet owners have already made sure their outside animals are sheltered against the cold.

The forecast does call for more sunshine later today with a high near 50 degrees. Saturday morning temperatures are again expected to fall just below freezing for the morning by afternoon conditions will have moderated into  the middle 50 degree range.

The outlook for Sunday is a stormy  one as a frontal system will approach the area from the west bringing a significant threat of rain and thunderstorms to the area. Rain chances for Sunday are currently listed at 90%. Following Sunday's showers temperatures will again be much cooler with the passage of the cold front.
