Last Saturday's Ragin Cajun home opener wasn't a total washout but it was wet. There is a pretty good chance we could see similar conditions this weekend.

The current thinking has rain chances on the increase for this afternoon into Saturday and that could mean more red rubber boots at Cajun Field when Louisiana Tech comes calling on the Cajuns.

A series of weak disturbances and an increase in Gulf moisture will be influenced by an upper level system approaching from the north as the weekend progresses. This abundance of moisture and instability will lead to mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms for today. The rain chances are a bit better for Saturday and Sunday and the thinking is that some of the showers and thunderstorms could linger past sunset.

The ultra long range forecast for the Lafayette area suggests that a cold front could make it through the area by this time next weekend and that will bring slightly cooler and drier conditions to the area. The bad news with this cold front is that some of the tropical models are picking up tropical development on the tail end of that front that could affect Acadiana after the middle of the month. Remember forecasts that look that far ahead in time are problematic when it comes to accuracy.

The near term outlook from Dave Baker and KATC TV 3's weather lab calls for a 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms mainly this afternoon. The high temperature will be about 90 degrees. Tomorrow rain chances will be at 50% and up to 60% for Sunday. High's for both days will be near 90. Drier conditions are expected for midweek next week.
