Long Shot At 22-1 Shocks Louisiana Derby Field
Fans of thoroughbred horse racing who tuned in Saturday afternoon to watch the Louisiana Derby got quite a shock by the time the dust had settled. In fact, most of the racing world was a bit in shock but connections associated with By My Standards, a 3-year old stallion were not shocked at all.
The 22-1 long shot bested the field at Saturday's Louisiana Derby held at the Fairgrounds Racetrack and Slots in New Orleans by 4 and 1/2 lengths. This victory moves By My Standards into the field for the May 4th running of the Kentucky Derby.
As far as prices go, By My Standards paid $47.00 to win, $16.60 to place, and $9.40 to show. Those prices are based on a two dollar wager. By My Standards was ridden to victory in the Louisiana Derby by jockey Gabriel Saez. He is trained by Brett Calhoun. By My Standards is owned by Allied Racing Stables LLC.
