Friends and family of 21-year-old Hunter Brown as asking why as they search for answers this morning. The Lake Charles native and former Barbe High School football standout died suddenly while on campus at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

The USAFA made the announcement of Hunter's death on Tuesday.

The statement which was published on the Air Force Academy's social media pages explained that Brown died Monday after suffering what was described only as a medical emergency while on his way to class.

Brown's passing prompted another tribute on social media, this time from his former high school team at Barbe High School in Lake Charles.

KPLC Television in Lake Charles is reporting that Brown was assigned to Cadet Squadron 16. He was pursuing a degree in management with a minor in French. In addition to his military training at the Air Force Academy, Brown was a member of the Falcons football team as well. He was a part of that squad's winning seasons in 2021 and in 2022.

According to reports agents of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office secured the response area where Brown experienced the medical emergency and they are conducting an investigation into his death. The investigation is standard protocol for a military member or on-base death.

Air Force Coach Troy Calhoun told Fox 21 Television,

He was tough, a great worker, and no one unselfishly pulled harder for others than Hunter. His mom and dad, Candyce and Dustin, raised a wonderful son who made each of us a better person. We love our great brother, and our thoughts and prayers are with Hunter’s incredible soul and his family.

As of this report, final arrangements for Brown had not been completed.
