For Louisiana's sugarcane farm families this has been a big year. Just about everything that could go well with the crop has gone well and as the harvest moves closer and closer to the conclusion our state could be looking at an agricultural record.

AgCenter specialists with LSU say this year's sugarcane yield could come very close to or even top the record harvest of 2012. That's when 'cane producers ground out 84-hundred pounds per acre harvested.

Weather conditions have been very favorable for most of the growing season and the harvest and grinding season which usually winds down this time of year might extend a few weeks deep into the new year.

Sugar prices are about .25 cents per pound and that's in line with what producers saw last year. So, a larger yield and a stable price could mean a much better year financially too for the men and women who make up Louisiana's sugarcane industry.
