The Lenten Season in Louisiana is famous for its staunch observance by the faithful and by the incredible seafood recipes the faithful have concocted to feed their families on Fridays during Lent.

The fish sandwich is a staple on Fridays during Lent in Louisiana. The state is home to more than a few good choices in that regard. Lord knows the Shrimp Po-Boy at Lafayette's Olde Tyme Grocery has almost a cult-like following in the state and around the world, for that matter.

But according to the national food publication Mashed, if you want to experience the best fish sandwich in Louisiana, you'll have to visit a seafood joint that has a special connection to Olde Tyme. Let's just say "if you know, you know," and leave it at that.

The fish sandwich in question comes from a place that has been serving sandwiches since 1911. They're so popular that they have their own parking lot attendants to make sure that the crowd can get in and get fed. If you've been there, you know the legend that is Parkway Bakery and Tavern.

No, it's not much to look at from the outside, but then again, this is Louisiana, where the outside of a restaurant has very little to do with the goodness that lies within.

The folks at Mashed suggested that you try the Southeast Louisiana Catfish flash-fried. I would get mine dressed because the mark of a good Louisiana sandwich is often left on the front of your shirt.

Now, the folks at Mashed did give accolades to Olde Tyme Grocery in another list they published, and while I am not sure why the two lists don't seem to intersect, you'd think they might. I guess even the folks at Mashed have a tough time deciding which sandwich is better.

Wouldn't it be something if those two po-boy places were somehow connected? Oh, yeah, I alluded to that already, didn't I? They are, and we think it's a good thing, especially for our appetites.
